The love of gardening runs deep in my veins. There was nothing better than riding my bike over to my nana’s house to see how her garden was growing. She grew everything, even popcorn! She taught me the joys of the dirt, seeds, and the satisfaction of harvesting what she grew. Come fall, she would can whatever was left. My favorite was homemade grape jelly from the vines in her yard (and that comes into play in my kitchen page).
In addition to vegetable gardening, I learn the art of coloring up the landscape thanks to my papa. His Italian roots brought perfection to every inch of the yard. Being able to step out your door , snip a flower or two and create a beautiful bouquet for the counter top or the guest bedroom is extremely satisfying. I hope I can inspire you, teach you, and brighten up your world to color.
Nothing brightens up a room in the winter months than a holiday decoration that can last into the New Year. Pick the perfect ribbon and you can enjoy it straight through February. Birch logs are the perfect winter vessel to decorate. The white bark contrasts with so many other colors. I have this easy DYI project that won't take you more than 10 minutes to make, costs very little, can be saved for the following year, and will wow all your guests. You only need 4 items and you are ready to wrap a log!
If you're like me and pretend to be Clark Griswald, I've got an easy way to hang and take down those lights high up on the house.
It is that time of year to pack up the gardens and get them ready for the Winter season. Sometimes it is hard to let go of the beauty a garden provides, but I get excited this time of year. It means there is less work for me ahead for a few months in the yard. This summer I tried a couple of different things to see if it worked in my favor to spend less time in the garden and also help the environment. In the end I was extremely pleased.
