JAZZ UP YOUR GLASS JARS THIS HOLIDAY

HOLIDAY IN A JAR

There is nothing more eye catching than store front windows this time of year. It truly doesn’t matter if you are a kid or an adult, the whimsical beauty of snow, gingerbread houses, snowmen, snow covered trees just puts a smile on your face. Now, most of us don’t have the room or budget to recreated a scene like this in our home or bay window, but I have a simple way of making something like this come to life in a miniature version.

You may call it “Holiday In A Jar” or “Christmas In A Jar.” You get to choose the scene for your home whether it has to do with Santa or any other holiday you celebrate. This is even something you can do and keep all winter, by choosing a winter scene with trees, snow, and lamp posts.

I promise you, this will be the talk of your home this season day or night. It will take you less than 5 minutes to assemble and the kids can have a blast helping you. The best part is, once you have the items, you can reuse every single year so it is a one time buy.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Any size glass jar (vase or apothecary)

  • Fake snow (Buffalo fine flurries from Micheal’s) or Kosher salt

  • Mini plastic bottle or drinking cup

  • Strand of mini battery powered warm white LED lights that are on a timer (minimum of 24 lights)

  • Holiday mini decorations (trees, houses, snowmen, lamp posts, figurines, ornaments, the list is endless) . These are found in any arts and crafts or home improvement store)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Place a little snow (or salt) into the glass jar just to fill a couple inches

  • Then wrap the lights into the jar, or wrap the lights around the plastic bottle or small cup and battery pack so it becomes one unit.

  • Place the lights (and cup) in the middle of the jar and on top of the little bit of snow (or salt) you added. Make sure you have the power button easily accessible on the top.

  • Then fill the jar with the rest of the snow (or salt) to cover the lights, usually this should only be halfway up your main jar or less. You need room for the decorations

  • Then add your winter scene on top of the snow (or salt).

  • Once the room is dark after sunset, turn the power button on the battery pack. You may need to move the decorations to do this for the first time and fix them after. Once the lights are on, the timer will stay on for usually 6 hours and then shut off for 18. They will automatically come on each evening for you.
